You can see the parking lot of Soswaewon on the right side of the Chungui Training Center at the Gwangju Lake Samgeori. You can delight in breathing the cool, fresh air in the tall bamboo forest in front of Soswaewon.

Jeongchul sang, "a cool brook flows to Beokodong, my drunken guest is never willing to wake." This garden was made by men yet retains its natural characteristics. It is an example of a natural garden of the mid Joseon dynasty.

Scholar Yang Sanbo gave up his political ambition when his mentor, the radical reformer Jo Gwangho (1482-1519), was killed by the corrupt ruling class; Yang had this building built to return to rural life. The name of Soswae means "clean and cool." Soswae is home to Daebong Observatory, located at the boundary of the bamboo forest. The name ‘Daebong’ means to "wait for an important guest, such as a Korean phoenix." Near the observatory, you can find Aeyang platform, whose name means "unusually brilliant sunshine", and Ogok Gate, through which a stream flows under the wall and then makes five turns (Ogok). Even the wall does not disturb nature by allowing the watercourse to flow freely. There is also a master room called Jewoldang above the observatory with a formal living room named Gwangpung-gak located in it. Soswaewon was first started in 1527 but was finally completed after about 70 years by the grandson of the founder. The first blueprint carved on a wooden plate still remains.
