Sikyeongjeong commands a fine view of the glowing sunset and is famous for being the backdrop of Seongsanbyeolgok poems beginning with the phrase "listen to me, owner of Sikyeongjeong, Seohadang!" It is elegantly seated on a hill next to Lake Gwangju, facing Seongsan. It is located in Jigok-ri near the Gasa Literature Museum and faces the Hwanbyeokdang Building across the Changgyeo River. The great master of Gasa Literature Jeong Cheol, cherished this place, which is composed of two rooms in the front, two more on the side, a study, long wooden aisles, and a Paljak-style roof. Set your mind at peace by watching blue Lake Gwangju seated in the pavilion “where even the shadows rest".
Kim Seongwon (1525-1597) had this building constructed for his mentor and father-in-law, Im Eokryeong in 1560 (15th year of the reign of King Myeongjong in the Joseon dynasty). Among its frequent visitors, Im Eokryeong, Jeong Cheol, Kim Seongwon, and Go Gyeongmyeong were called "the four Taoist hermits." They selected 20 scenic sites in Seongsan and wrote a total of 80 poems entitled "Sikyeongjeong Isipyeong" to praise their beauty. Jeong Cheol's "Seongsan Byeolgok" was composed on the basis of this series of poems.
